Lasagna in my beard

I had been on the trail about 2 months when this happened.

I stopped for the day at one of the many shelters along the Appalachian trail. I cooked myself a meal of freeze dried

lasagna with an extra dose of cheese from the half eaten string cheese I had eaten earlier that day.

I cleaned up and hung my food as I normally do in shelters and went to bed.

All was well and I was asleep when I woke up with a mouse digging in my beard obviously trying to harvest some overlooked lasagna.

I freaked out and screamed like a little girl. Everyone in the shelter was disturbed, awake and wondering what was going on. I told them what had happened and I could hear more than one of them getting their bandannas to run it over their faces. Needless to  say I didn’t sleep a wink the whole rest of the night.

The funny thing is that I heard from other hikers with similar experiences.

Brave or stupid mice.
